Biomedical Research Center Slovak Academy of Sciences
Bratislava, Slovakia
The Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences is a leading biomedical research institution in Slovakia, integrating basic, translational, and clinical research to address major health challenges, including neurodegenerative, metabolic, cardiovascular, and oncological diseases. It comprises the Clinical Research Unit, the Center of Physical Activity, and the Center for Obesity Management, which is accredited by the European Association for the Study of Obesity. These facilities enable the implementation of multidomain interventions within randomised controlled trials, as well as outpatient, lifestyle-based management programmes for individuals at risk of accelerated age-related cognitive decline.
By combining multidisciplinary expertise with state-of-the-art technologies and international collaborations, the Biomedical Research Center seeks to uncover the molecular, cellular, and systemic mechanisms underlying human diseases, identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets, and translate scientific discoveries into improved healthcare. The Center also plays a key role in educating young scientists, participating in European research initiatives, and fostering innovation to address current and future challenges in biomedical research.
